Former CIA Analyst Indicted for Espionage

Sue Mi Terry Accused of Acting as Foreign Agent

Former CIA analyst and foreign policy specialist Sue Mi Terry has been indicted for acting as a foreign agent for South Korea. The indictment, announced by the Southern District of New York, alleges that Terry accepted Louis Vuitton handbags and Michelin-starred meals in exchange for providing information to South Korean officials.

Terry, who was a director at the Bower Group Asia, is accused of passing classified information to South Korean officials on multiple occasions. The indictment also alleges that Terry attempted to obstruct the investigation into her activities by deleting emails and text messages.

If convicted, Terry faces up to five years in prison.

The indictment is the latest in a series of high-profile cases involving former U.S. officials accused of spying for foreign governments. In recent years, former CIA officer John Kiriakou was sentenced to 30 months in prison for leaking classified information to a reporter, and former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden was granted asylum in Russia after leaking classified documents to the media.

The indictment of Terry is a reminder of the serious consequences that can result from unauthorized disclosure of classified information. It is also a warning to former U.S. officials that they are not immune from prosecution for espionage, even if they are no longer employed by the government.
