Early Life and Education
Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. He was the second of eight children born to John and Elizabeth Dickens.
Literary Career
Dickens began his writing career as a journalist in 1832. In 1836, he published his first novel, The Pickwick Papers, which achieved immediate success. He went on to write numerous other novels, including Oliver Twist (1838), Nicholas Nickleby (1839), and A Tale of Two Cities (1859).
Social Commentary
Dickens' novels often addressed social issues of the day, such as poverty, class inequality, and the plight of the working poor. His works were highly influential in shaping public opinion about these issues.
Later Life and Legacy
Dickens died on June 9, 1870, at the age of 58. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English literature. His works continue to be read and enjoyed by readers around the world.
